Get Your AC Fixed Fast To Avoid Health Issues

Doesn't it always seem like your air conditioner works fine until the weather reaches its hottest point? An AC system can fail at any time, though, but living without cool air could be detrimental to your health if you suffer from asthma, severe allergies, or other health problems. To avoid having flare ups and health issues, you will need to get emergency HVAC services right away.

What Health Problems Does Humidity Cause?

When it is really hot outside, the humidity in the air rises. As this happens, it can have negative effects on your body, especially if you suffer from some type of health issue. This typically begins to happen when the humidity level rises over 50%, which is the recommended level a house should be at according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Humid air can easily get trapped in your house if your AC is not working, and it might be hard to get any type of air circulation. Because of this, the air in your house will become stagnant and the humidity level will often continue to rise because the space is closed in.

High humidity levels inside a home are not good for health reasons, and they can cause the following problems to develop:

  • Trouble breathing – If you suffer from allergies or asthma, being in highly-humid areas could cause you to have trouble breathing. This is because the air gets thicker, and this tends to cause coughing and shortness of breath.
  • Mold issues – Mold thrives in climates that are humid, and mold is one of the worst things to be around if you have any type of respiratory issue. Mold is an allergen, but it is not the only allergen that thrives in high humidity. The humidity in your house might also trigger an increase in dust mites, which can also lead to worsening of allergy symptoms.
  • Heat stroke and exhaustion – Another common effect of being in a hot house is that it could lead to a heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Both of these can occur because your body may have a harder time sweating in hot, humid conditions.

These are just a few of the problems you might experience when your AC stops working on a really hot day, but there are things you can do to help you cope.

What Can You Do To Stay Cool and Avoid Health Issues?

The first thing you should do if your AC breaks is call an HVAC company for emergency services. When you place a call for emergency services, let them know about the health issues you have. They may come to your home to complete the services faster because of this. While you wait for them to arrive, there are certain things you could do to avoid getting sick from the heat, and these include:

  • Keep fans going – If you place a fan in a window and turn it on so that it is facing outside, it may help create a breeze inside your house. When doing this, make sure you open up another window so the breeze can blow in.
  • Shut your curtains – Closing up all window treatments could help block the sun out and the heat from it.
  • Avoid cooking and showering – You may also want to avoid doing anything that produces more humidity, and cooking and taking hot showers are two normal activities that can create more heat in a house.
  • Apply cold compresses on your skin – Another option is to place cold rags or compresses on your skin. Placing a cold rag behind your neck or on your forehead could help you decrease your body temperature.
  • Go somewhere else – If your health problems are really bad, it might not be safe for you to stay home. If this is the case, go to a friend's house, or go to a public place that has AC, such as a library.

It can be difficult to stay cool when your AC goes out, and that is why you should always call a HVAC services company. They will diagnose and fix the problem as quickly as possible, and this will help you get the relief you need from the heat.

Exploring The Importance of Plumbing Pipes

Hi everyone, my name is Linda Strickerts. I am going to talk about plumbing pipes problems, repairs and upgrades on this site. Although the pipes hide beneath the floors and behind the walls, they are an integral part of the home. Without plumbing pipes, we would still be heading out to the outhouse to do our business. Washing clothes, dishes and ourselves would also not be possible without carrying buckets of water in and out of the home. I hope to explore the different ways plumbing pipes changed our lives for the better. I will talk about keeping the pipes in great shape as well. Thanks.
