Buying a new home is an exciting experience, and you have already done the hard part by making sure that everything seems to be in working order before you moved in. Now, you still have work to do to protect your new home from the property damage that occurs during a major plumbing catastrophe. As you develop your home maintenance schedule, start it all off by implementing these strategies that help you avoid a plumbing emergency:
Practice Clog Prevention
When you buy a home, you inherit the potential problems caused by someone else's negligence, and clogs are a common issue to arise with household plumbing. Start by running water in your plumbing fixtures to make sure that the water drains properly. If it drains slowly, then you may need a residential plumber to clear them before they lead to a serious backup. Then, make sure that your kitchen sink has a strainer, and the shower has a hair trap to avoid having debris go down the drains.
Inspect for Signs of Leaks
There may also be minor leaks in the plumbing system that have gone undetected. Search for a plumber near me that can help you check the entire plumbing system to identify potential problem areas. For instance, an underground pipe leak may not be evident from the exterior of your home, but a plumber will be able to identify one so that you can have it repaired.
Locate the Shut-Off Valves
You should also know how to shut the water off quickly if a problem occurs such as a burst pipe since these issues can send hundreds of gallons of water flooding into your home. Look near each plumbing fixture for the shut-off valve and practice using it. Next, find the main shut off valve to the house. This is usually on the outside of the house, and it should be located somewhere between the street and your home. Once you know where all of the shut-off valves are located, make sure that everyone in your house knows where they are and how to use them during an emergency.
While you are naturally eager to start decorating your house, take a few minutes to make sure that water doesn't ruin your beautiful rugs and furniture by checking out the plumbing. This way, you can settle into your house knowing that one of the most important features is fully operational. Contact a company like Moon Valley Plumbing for more information and assistance.Share

Hi everyone, my name is Linda Strickerts. I am going to talk about plumbing pipes problems, repairs and upgrades on this site. Although the pipes hide beneath the floors and behind the walls, they are an integral part of the home. Without plumbing pipes, we would still be heading out to the outhouse to do our business. Washing clothes, dishes and ourselves would also not be possible without carrying buckets of water in and out of the home. I hope to explore the different ways plumbing pipes changed our lives for the better. I will talk about keeping the pipes in great shape as well. Thanks.
